#Easy #Baked #Sopapillas
The baked sopapillas are light on the inside and crisp on the outside! Rolled in melted vanilla butter and cinnamon sugar, these sopapillas are fun and enticing!
We go out for Mexican food at least once a week and I think I always look forward to the sopapillas at the end of the meal! They're just a little crisp on the outside and soft and airy in the center, and who can resist a good drizzle of honey? Cinnamon sugar desserts are my favorites and if you've made my super popular donut muffins, they're probably one of your favorites too. I think you're going to be super happy with my homemade version of this dessert. It only takes a handful of ingredients that you probably already have ... and if not, run to the store and get the puff pastry now!
How to make easy baked sopapillas:
- First, take your puff pastry out of the freezer. Defrost according to the directions on the package. This basically involves removing it from the packaging and wrapping paper and then thawing it on the counter for about 20 minutes.
- Preheat your oven and place the thawed dough on your cutting board that you have sprinkled with a little flour.
- Use a knife or pizza cutter to cut the puff pastry into 9 pieces.
- Place the dough squares in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or silpat.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes until lightly browned. Keep an eye on them at 15 minutes, you don't want the bottom to burn!
- While cooking, melt your butter in a medium bowl and mix the cinnamon sugar in a second bowl.
- Remove the baked puff pastry squares from the oven and let them cool for a minute or two, until you can handle them. Dip them in the melted butter, then roll in the cinnamon / sugar. Drizzle with honey if desired!
